Which Prequal to choose?

Simple. Ask your client. If they give you options, discuss with us, we will explain pros and cons. Cost is generally similar.

totika pre-qualification

Tōtika is the preferred prequal for large construction and civil contractors. Fast becoming the choice of New Zealand regional councils.

Categories: Sole-Trader, Category 1 (small business, low risk), Category 2 (medium business, or higher risk), Category 3 (large business, or very high risk). Validity – 1 or 2 years, depending on category. Check your category here: Tōtika

What is Tōtika? It creates a fair and equitable scheme with the objective that suppliers only need to pre-qualify ONCE instead of duplicating effort for each new client and opportunity through:

  • One universal standard – which provides a single source and a common view for H&S pre-qualification
  • One cross recognition framework – that recognises external audits of suppliers as an alternative
  • External assessment and certificate schemes – through recognition of ISO 45001 certification, SafePlus On-Site Assessments and Q-Safe certification

What it isn’t. Tōtika is not just another pre-qualification system; it is a single framework that brings all health and safety pre-qualifications together under one umbrella to make the process cheaper and quicker for everyone. Tōtika does not absolve a buyer’s/client’s responsibility for health and safety, nor does it guarantee any supplier’s capability of doing a job. Tōtika is not for profit, so any surplus after costs will be used for the benefit of the industry.”

impac pre-qualification

Impac Prequal is a well respected and established prequal system, which takes an in-depth look at company safety systems.

“PREQUAL is an independently managed service that:

  • Provides a manager (or employer) of contractors with an indication of a contractors’ ability to perform work safely,
  • Enables a contractor to demonstrate they have been independently assessed and can be trusted to work safely and to get the job done,
  • Removes the hassle of a client organisation having to assess the health and safety systems and other critical measures used by a contractor.”

sitewise pre-qualification

Sitewise is an old favourite. Popular with smaller businesses, it covers all the essentials.

“SiteWise is a prequalification system that grades a contractor’s health & safety capability and publishes that grade in a database that can be viewed by main contractors and principal organisations. This allows for better contractor selection and an easier tendering process for everyone involved.”
